Check Disc Space

Connecting to the Internet gives you a huge opportunity to download as many files as your connection can handle. This is why the need for extra disc space continues to grow because some people download so much that they are unaware as to how much disc space they are consuming until the balloon message pops up on the bottom right of the screen requesting action to free up disk space using a cleanup tool.

Cleaning tools may not provide enough cleaning power at times so it is important to check disc space beforehand so you can delete unnecessary files or transfer important ones to other areas so you can keep up your downloading momentum. Here are some ways to check disc space easily.

The easiest and most compatible way to do it is to individually check each drive's free space by going to "My Computer" (or "Computer" in Vista/7) and right clicking a drive and selecting properties. A pie graph should appear showing some numbers that dictate how much space you have free, used, and total amount.

If you are using Windows Vista or 7, you check disc space of all the drives in a single screen by selecting "Computer" on the desktop or Start menu and changing the view to "Tiles" by pressing "Alt+V" and selecting "Tiles". A bar graph should show the consumed space and will turn red if a large portion of the drive is filled.

Some third party software may have deeper features that show you what files are taking up all the space and what can be deleted to free up space. These programs require a little bit of scanning, but are often useful if you have lots of drives to clean up and need to do more than check disc space statistics.

The problem is that most folks think they have filled up their disc space and maybe it's time to upgrade their PC, well that is not the case, you may simply need to free up disc space on your PC as you have probably filled it up with years on storing useless info.
